good bbs friends--

thank you for your kind patronage : )

i took a long hard look at the bbs and
realized--though the negativity was hugely
outweighed by friendly content--that i'm just not
a particularly thick-skinned artist, and that i'd
be better off turning my full attention to my
work.

friends wrote and suggested i plug
http://www.superspecialrock.com

which is a bbs site run by (former)
regulars here.

if you're looking to get your
own thing going, i recommend delphiforums as
a great place to run a bbs--anybody can just
start one up.

as for this site, i'm hoping to revamp it in more
of a blog style.

thanks again, and see you in indy, bowling green,
and cleveland this week!

Smofe + Smang is for sale once again on the Mike Doughty SuperSpecial Store. Thank you all for waiting patiently -- as many of you pointed out, it did in fact take more than a fortnight to re-stock. :)

Click here to get to the storefront, where you can have your smofe and eat it too.

Mike's epic two-hour chat/performance with Vin Scelsa on WFUV's "Idiot's Delight" radio show is available in WFUV's archive now. Tune in to hear Mike play new songs "Unsingable Name" and "Madeleine And Nine," chat about Soul Coughing, fake words and "Waiting For Godot," and play old reggae tunes. Parental Warning: Mike slips and says "fuckin'" on the air once. Don't call the FCC, just go to this URL:

http://www.wfuv.org/

Select "WFUV Archives" from the left menubar, then "Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight" from the pull-down menu, then click on "October 19, 2002" to start the playback.

The deluge of emails since Smofe + Smang sold out has convinced us to make more. JUST A FEW more.

Another run of exactly ONE THOUSAND Smofe + Smang CDs is at the manufacturer now, and will be to MusicToday in under a fortnight (that means TWO WEEKS, kids) for your purchasing pleasure.

This will be IT. The LAST you'll hear of this strange phenomenon called Smofe + Smang. So get one while you can!

The Store

By Mike Doughty HQ (Andy) on Saturday, September 21, 2002 - 11:27 am:

Smofe + Smang: Live In Minneapolis is SOLD OUT and has been taken off the MusicToday store.

If you have ordered it and got a backorder message from MusicToday, it will be shipped next week. (We had to send them a few more discs to cover some overflow orders that were placed.)

You can, of course, still pick up Skittish, Slanky and a t-shirt at the MusicToday store:

Skittish is available again at the MusicToday store. It looks a little bit different, as we changed manufacturers, but it's the music on the disc is unchanged.

Mike is also selling Skittish at shows on the fall tour. It also looks different from before. It's also the same music as always.

Feeling super? Feeling special?

We're in need of some SuperSpecial people to attend to Mike Doughty's guest list at each and every show on the VW Music Ed. Tour with Rusted Root this fall. YOU bring the list around the venue, get people to scribble their addy, and spread the way of the small rock. WE put you and a friend on Mike's guest list for the show. MIKE will hang with you for a bit before or after the show to chat, take pics, whatever. (No, he will not come home to meet your mom. But thanks for asking!)

If you're fan enough to answer the call, email Mike Doughty HQ [mdmail@littlebigman.com] with the following info:

NAME:
EMAIL:
AGE:
CITY AND DATE OF SHOW AT WHICH YOU'D LIKE TO HANDLE THE EMAIL LIST:

Deadline is 12:00 noon eastern time on Thursday, September 5; we'll pick a person at random for each date.

By Mike Doughty HQ (Andy) on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 - 03:15 pm:

There's much much chatter and confusion about ordering Smofe + Smang and Slanky. Here's the skinny:

Despite some misinformation coming from MusicToday's customer service people, Smofe + Smang and Slanky are both in stock, not backordered, and shipping normally by the method you chose when you placed your order. Expect to receive them within a reasonable amount of time after ordering (see below).

So, if you've ordered the disc and/or the book, and haven't received it, please be patient -- it's on the way, and MusicToday is continuing to fill new orders normally as they come in.

These are the expected delivery times for MusicToday's different shipping options. If it's been longer than the amount of time listed for the shipping method you chose, you should contact MusicToday customer service (toll-free 1.877.MUSIC77, 9am - 12am Monday Thru Thursdays, 9am - 8pm Fridays EST) to get a tracking number.

Standard (USPS mail): 7-10 days (approx)
UPS Blue: 3-5 days
UPS Red: 2-3 days
UPS Red Same Day: 1-2 days
All international shipments: 2-4 weeks

Sorry for the confusion, folks.

Also coming July 8: the long-awaited release of Mike's poetry book, "Slanky," by Soft Skull Press (www.softskull.com). Featuring a spiffy new cover design, "Slanky" will be available in fine retail book stores across America. Written in 1995 and sold sporadically and Soul Coughing and Doughty solo shows for a few years thereafter, "Slanky" has been out of print for some time now -- so help welcome it back!
